After much struggle, I *think* that I have created a database, data table
and address label. My data table contains some fields that are sometimes
empty. How can I cause the empty fields to be ignored so that there are not
gaps or extra (empty) lines on the labels?
Also, how can I get a print-out of the data table?
If everything else is correct:
File>New>Labels then select Print. You will be asked if you want a Mail Merge:
reply Yes and then in the resulting dialog box select File rather than Printer.
It should be self-evident from there.

You can insert a conditional hidden paragraph (see the help files) on the
line that may be blank.
However, it may be that will work only when you fill the fields with data
from the database, but will not work when you do a mail merge.
It works everywhere in OOo V2.3.1. The general form is (without the quotation
marks):
"![Database.Table.Fieldname]"
