Installing a new version 2.x over an older 2.y version will not destroy
*documents*. You need to look in whichever directory (folder) you told
OpenOffice to save into under whatever name you told OpenOffice to save as.

Did you save in OpenOffice format or in some other format? Did you have the
"automatic file name extension" box checked when you saved the file? If not,
the file's name won't have an extension so searching for the name including
an extension won't work too well.
