This sounds very much like the common problem people have with the Microsoft installer bug when Windows fails. Try the following: Make sure that no part of OOo (OpenOffice.org) is running, including the Quickstarter in the task bar tray. Then carefully read and follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 Hope this helps.
