You will not lose your data, because you did backed it up, didn't you?

This sounds very much like the common problem people have with the
Microsoft installer bug when Windows fails. Try the following:

Make sure that no part of OOo (OpenOffice.org) is running, including the
Quickstarter in the task bar tray. Then carefully read and follow the
instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
