It is very much alive.
The "released" beta is indeed a June build but there are other
places where you can get much more recent builds.
I have one from last week.
You should get in touch with the Mac port developers to get the
address because I think the hosting site has bandwidth limits.

Until a stable an fully functional Aqua port of the official OOo is
released, I'd recommend NeoOffice. If you're concerned about
fragmenting the open-source movement, then simply download and
install NeoOffice for free and donate to both. They should really be
working together. Although NeoOffice's interface is clunkier than
Pages (iWork 08) or Mac Word, it still integrates better with the
overall look and feel than using OOo under X11 or (as a colleague of
mine does) M$ Office 2003 under Parallels. MacBooks are selling like
hot cakes and the first question most new buyers ask relates to M$
Office compatibility. iWork has a nifty little interface, but doesn't
quite cut it for interoperability with ODF (non-existent) or M$ Word
(not even bullet points translate well). NeoOffice does everything
OpenOffice does and has never let me down when collaborating with M$
Office users.
