Another option to those already suggested is to give a copy of OO.o on
CD-R or USB stick to your daughter. This will allow her to:
 * Use a program five years more modern.
 * Open ODF files natively.
 * Keep up with many (especially European) countries that are beginning
to increasingly use ODF for their save file format.

Both OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office can work side by side on the
same computer.
