I was told by the Dell tech that I could download www.openoffice.org and I
could get my Word opened. I do not have Word on this notebook computer but do
have it on my desk top located in another state. I tried but will you send me
to the exact page to download the program. Thank you, Ann Clark
That page is the correct one. There is a green box on the page that says
"get
openoffice.org
version 2.3.1"
Click on that. On the next page click on the long green box that says
"Download OpenOffice.org
Select your operating system and off you go!"
The names of several operating systems will appear. There will also be
a box labeled "Include Java JRE with this download". Make sure that box
has a check mark.
Click on the name of your operating system, which I'm assuming is Windows.
The next page will be an opportunity to contribute to the project.
Since you haven't tried it yet, you're probably not interested, so skip
that (I'm not saying you can't contribute) by clicking on the green box
that says,
"continue to download"
Unless you have another system, you'll find it convenient to download to
your desktop.
After you have downloaded the file with a name like
OOo_2.3.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US
(it will have the extension "exe") you must run that file to unpack the
installation files. You'll probably find it convenient to put
installation files on your desktop, like the downloaded file.
Unpacking should also begin the installation process.
If you do not install immediately after unpacking or if the process is
interrupted, you will need to look in the unpacked installation files
for the file "openofficeorg23" that has an "msi" extension and run that
installer program.
