I am using version 2.0 of OpenOffice.org.
My problem is that because I am writing chapters
of a book, I need to insert page numbers
starting with a different number for each
chapter. It has been a nightmare to try to do this.
But one of the experiences is puzzling:
If I go to Insert/ Camps/Page Number/insert
while having my cursor in "pie de página" (my
program happens to speak spanish!) I get my pages numbered STARTING WITH 109!
I thought that somewhere I would get access to
the number 109 and be able to change it as
needed, but the program has resisted all my
attempts. (Somehow this number has reached
there, but I wonder how...) If I could change
that number, then my problems would be solved.
One of the things which I tried was
Insert/Campos/ Others/Page, and then I had access to three choices:
1 Número de Página (does the same as stated above)
2 Previous Page/insert which numbers my pages from 108
3 Next page/insert which numbers my pages from 110.
Trying to save the document and going to
Previous Page/insert does not start with 107, but stays with 108.
Unfortunately there is no line there to choose a user defined Page Number.
I would very much appreciate your help which
would make OpenOffice much more useful for me,
saving me having to translate my files to Word,
bringing them to a machine having Word, getting
the correct page numbers, and bringing those fixed files back to my machine.
Open Office seems to be very good, probably much
better than Word, but this fly in the soup is
most unpleasant. The help section, stubbornly refuses to help with this.
"Cambiar Page Number" is not one of its entries.
I will very much appreciate to get help with this.
Sincerely,
Octavio C. García
The starting page number is a property of the
first paragraph of the first page. Put the
cursor into the first paragraph of your first
page (even if this paragraph is empty) and go to
Format | Paragraph... | Text Flow (or right-click
| Paragraph... | Text Flow). Is there a non-zero
value in "Page number" under Breaks? If so, change it to zero there.
I trust this helps.
