[users] version 2.3 of openoffice.org documents not able to be read by MS office student/teacher 2007 (as file is "corrupted")

Just wondering if I should be able to open the open office document in MS word 
2007 (Vista computer) or if I truly do have an issue with corruption.  Thanks,
