That is because Microsoft have chosen not to directly support the international ISO Standard ODF XML format that OpenOffice.org uses natively. The latest version of Microsoft Office also has a new XML format which cannot be read on older versions of Microsoft Office either. Worse, Microsoft are intentionally disabling support for older formats (including .doc) in Word 2003 Service Pack 3. There is a solution for your issue though. From OpenOffice.org "Save As..." you can save directly in "Word 97/2000/XP" format .doc files. This is on the "file type" drop down list. Also ensure that the tick box for Automatic name extension is ticked (checkbox checked in USA English). Without it Windows will not recognise the filetype for any format unlike other OS's. These two steps will ensure that your files are readable in all versions of Word since Word 97. -- Michael All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well - Julian of Norwich 1342 - 1416 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
