Leopard comes with X11 (or XDarwin / xquartz) already installed. Just see that you update Leopard as well as X11 (from: http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/wiki/X112.1.1 It sometimes helps to start X11 first (from Application>Utilities, or drag the X11 icon to your Dock for easy access) before starting OpenOffice.org Did you download the right version (G5 still is a PPC, isn't it?) of OOo?
