Thanks again for all the | good advice. If you have the current version (2.3.1) installed there are no updates necessary. I think what you are seeing is OOo checking for a newer version of the program. Currently OOo does not do incremental or "patch" updates. When a new version becomes available, it requires a full program download and an update install. So updates do not come along every day, maybe one or twice a year. You can prevent OOo from running this check by going to the OOo menu "Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> Online Update" and uncheck/untick the options there. Hope this helps.
