http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/. Get the Writer Guide.  What you 
need specifically is the chapters on styles. Also, the Getting Started Guide 
might be of good use. The chapters of these two Guides are also available in 
as separate downloads at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/.
