The help text confirms that you cannot change the name of a predefined
style.
It would be nice if this was indicated in some way, such as by not offering an
edit control for the style name that is initially indistinguishable from the
edit controls for editable style names. It'd also be nice if there were some
way to know that a style is predefine. Perhaps there is, and I just don't
realize it.
o Open the Styles and Formatting window.
o Select the style you wish to copy.
o Click the right-hand icon in the window's toolbar and select "New
Style from Selection" in the drop-down list.
o Enter a name for your style copy and select OK.
o If necessary, right-click the new style name in the list, select
Modify, and make any desired changes.
Very nice, thanks.
... and then automatically change all paragraphs using the
unchangeable names to the corresponding new styles?
I don't know that you can do this. But one convenient technique is to
select your new style and then the Fill Format Mode button in the Styles
and Formatting window.
Yes, this will work, and in my case, my document is only about 10 pages long, so
it's practical. For longer documents, perhaps there's a way to write a macro
that would automate this work?
Thanks for the help.
