I've received by mail a file *.odm
I hadn't seen this type of extension before. I found out that this kind of file
could be read by OpenOffice so I downloaded the version 2.0, then I tried to
open that file but the page that the software shows me is completly empty.
How can I do?

That appears to be an OpenOffice.org master document file. A master document collects several otherwise independent documents into a bunch and lets you handle the group conveniently. The individual documents could be book chapters, for example.

Generally there is very little content in a master document other than information about what files should be included in the group.

It looks like whoever sent you the .odm didn't realize that the default behavior of master documents is that the content of the other files will not be included.

You can change that behavior so that all the content will be saved in the .odm file. On the navigator for the master document there is an icon that looks like a pennant and floppy disk with the tool tip "Save contents as well". Clicking that so it appears depressed will cause all the content to be saved in the .odm file.

I suggest looking in OOo's help, too.
