Have you actually installed OpenOffice? After downloading the installer file from www.openoffice.org, you then have to double click on that file. This starts the installation process, which takes you through several panels. When that completes, you should have an OpenOffice folder and icons in your Start menu. You use those icons to start the various OpenOffice components.
