Thanks.

Sadly I note that 2.4 will still not be able to use OpenType fonts on Linux.

It will probably be another year before 2.5, and probably the OOo developers
will ignore us yet again when 2.5 comes out. I am giving serious consideration
to abandoning OOo and going to Microsoft Office. As much as I dislike it I
really can't put up with not being able to use OpenType fonts in OOo on Linux
much more. It's especially annoying considering that Linux has fully supported
OpenType longer than Windows.

I am responsible for aspects of software support at my university. I have long
extolled the virtues of OOo, but perhaps I am going to have to stop encouraging
people to use it. It is not cross-platform if a student with OOo on Windows or
MacOS sends a file to a student with Linux and the file is a mess because the
Linux user's version of OOo cannot see the fonts used by the Windows or MacOS
user. I am tired of the constant complaints I get about this. Students can get
MS Office for $99 at the bookstore and recommending it may be better than
continuing to fight an uphill battle.
