you have your user settings for a folder called 'backup'.

Alternatively when you next start OpenOffice there should also be the option
to 'recover' your lost document.

Some options for preventing this would be to reduce the time interval from
15 minutes to 1 minute.
Just remember to save frequently (it only takes a little time, but it does
save alot of grief).

And remember - not everything you see on CSI is possible.
