I am using version 2.3.1 of OpenOffice Calc. I have been using Excel for
several years and I can navigate very well with it, I am trying to break
loose of the MS Office and just downloaded OO. My difficulty is multi fold, first I wanted to add the "Push Button" to the
tools menu, after several tries it did get added but I am not sure which
procedure did it because I tried several ways and some did not add the
button to the menu, so it was not that obvious to me. The documentation was
not too helpful.
Second I placed the button in a new spreadsheet. Third, I recorded a macro and then tried assigning it to the "Push Button".
I had a hard time figuring which selection of the "Events" window to select.
So I saved my work and checked on the documentation and the help discussion.
There was a similar question that addressed my issue.
I opened the saved spreadsheet but now I can not select the button with the
right mouse button so I can open the Events dialog box, the push button is
not selectable. So I tried to add another button but the "Push Button" in
the Tools menu was grayed out so I could not add another button. The only
way to add another button is to open a new spreadsheet.
I spent too much time trying to figure this out. I hope the process is
simplified to eliminated the need to send emails to user groups for help on
such trivial issues.

Hi Mark,

Just a thought here.

When you open the Calc file with the already added pushbutton you can not select the pushbutton to edit the properties without first switching back into EDIT MODE for the form controls. ( When you added a new control it was automatically in edit mode and when you closed and opened it was automatically n run mdoe )

So - be sure you have the form control tool bar open - you will find the second tool button named "Design mode on/off" and you simply need to click this. Once done you can select the pushbutton, open the property editor and assign your macro to the "When initializing" event. ( LOL - why that isn't then "Push" event is beyond me ).
