Hi, I am just switching to Writer from Word, and I have run into a problem.

In some of my documents, the manual and automatic spell checker works fine,
in others neither work (yes, there are mistakes - deliberate ones) but I
cannot find any difference between the settings (inc. the language,
dictionary etc.). Nor can I find anything covering this in the FAQ's. In the
cases where it doesn't work, it give all the appearances of doing so, just
says there are no errors.

Help, please! My spelling needs all the help it can get. Pat.
Because Open Office deals with many languages such as with English you can have US, British, Canadian, Australian, etc, which would have some words correct from location be misspelled in another, there is an attribute in your style that must match with an installed dictionary. Check which dictionary you have and download the one you need if you do not have one for your locality. Then, make sure that your typing text style has the same location.

This is the idea behind the ability to type and spell check in more than one language in the same document.
