Thanks, Cor. I was using Table > Convert. However, I had not thought of
pasting as unformatted text -- that should be fine, so I'll try that out.

When the cursor is in a table, you can choose Table|Convert|... etc.
Also: when copying from a webpage or e-mail to an office document, I would
always try Edit|Paste special > Unformatted text .
