If i download this seemingly wonderful program on my daughter's computer.....her new computer only came with Word Perfect 12.........will she be able to open her previoius Microsoft Word Documents? At this time she cannot open them with Word Perfect 12.
If she makes a document in open office, will she be able to open it at her school in Microsoft Word? Thank you for a quick answer. We are in quite the delimma here not wanting to spend $200 for the cheapest student Mic. Office program. Thanks, cathy
The answer depends on which version of Word she was using to create the
documents. If it was the new version (Word 2007), and she let it use its
new format, then almost nothing but Word 2007 itself can do anything
with them yet, although there is a viewer available free from Microsoft.
Earlier versions of Word are fine for openoffice.org (OOo), except for
macros and some fancy stuff. I'd expect Word Perfect to be able to read
files saved in the old format, though, so they may be in the new one.
If she makes a document with OOo, she can save it as a Word document to
use it at school. Word can't read the standard format normally used by
OOo unless it has a special plugin installed.
