Great isn't it ;-) But can be annoying indeed!
It has to do with 'Number recognition'. You can switch that off in the
context menu (right mouse button) of the table. Or via
Tool|Options|OOo Writer|Table ...
Other possibility: change the 'Number format' of the cells, so that it
meets the format. (Also -not in your case- the language setting of the
number format can play a role)
'Number format' also can be found in the context menu or in Table from
the main menu.
