Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to know whether Links and Macros that were already created in MS Excel 2000/2003 Spreadsheet can be used in OpenOffice.org 2.3 Calc when saved in OpenDocument Spreadsheet(.ods) format using Calc ? Or I have to create Links and Macros again in OpenOffice 2.3 Calc. Thanking you in advance for your time. Your's Sincerely, Syed M. Hussain

Howdy Syed,

VBA support in Calc is one of the recognized areas needing improvement and is in fact being actively extended. At this moment however if that is a large concern you may be better served to look at two of the derivative versions of OpenOffice.org.

The first from Sun Microsystems, StarOffice 8. A free copy for Windows is available from Google. The second is put out by Novell Inc and is also named OpenOffice.org, you need to get this directly from the Novell website. In both cases you will find a better level of VBA compatibility - that said though it is still far from being able to open an Excel file with any non-trivial level of VBA code and have it work without re-writing some or even all of the code.

As for the baseline version of OpenOffice.org I don't think the upgrade in VBA compatibility is scheduled until the 3.0 release, so about 6 months from now.
