Often I must manipulate text (copy/cut/paste) from within a file or
multiple files. When one copies and cuts text in Calc, the
formatting (background, borders, font, size) is copied with it. I
need that ONLY the text be copied, and that the background will stay
in place even if I cut the text. I know that to paste text without
formatting one can long click the Paste button on the toolbar,
however, I have physical difficulties manipulating the mouse so I
prefer keyboard navigation. I cannot perform SHIFT-CTRL-V either, as
that requires fingers that I cannot use. I need to set the default
CTRL-V to relate to text only, not formatting. How is this done?
Thank you very much in advance. While I have no problem trying
alternative methods of pasting and I welcome all suggestions, I
_really_ need the default cut/copy/paste options to be text-only. So
if someone will suggest that I "try something else" then I will, but
I still need that the default be text only.
I don't know that you can leave the background in place when you
cut. I suspect the simplest way to do this is to copy what you want
elsewhere (if appropriate) instead of cutting, and then to select the
cell and press Backspace to clear the contents but leave any background.
As to redefining the keyboard shortcut for Paste, here's what to do:
o Go to Tools | Customize... | Keyboard.
o On the right, select the radio button for OpenOffice.org.
o In the "Shortcut keys" box, scroll down to and select "Ctrl+V Paste".
o In the category box, select Edit.
o In the Function box, scroll down to and select Paste
Special. (There seem to be two identical entries; I cannot see what
the difference is.)
o Press Modify and OK.
You will still need to deal with the detail of the Paste Special
dialogue when you use this, of course: I don't know any way to avoid that.
I trust this helps.
