There could be any number of reasons. The fact that you run Vista does *not*
mean it's not the fault of your machine. In fact,  Windows is regarded as
the least reliable of all the popular Operating Systems. It could also have
been your ISP or your phone line or the Telco or even OpenOffice.org's web
server.

If you have a slow internet connection and  know in advance (from the size
of the file) that a download is going to take a long time it is recommended
that you use a Download Manager or buy the software on CD. Scroll down the
Download page to find a link to CD suppliers and also to download via P2P
like BitTorrent.

Note that none of the CD suppliers on the download page is either
recommended or guaranteed by OpenOffice.org. Any deal is between you and the
vendor.

In addition, modern browsers like Firefox have re-start mechanisms built in
to overcome exactly the type of problem you complain of. I don't know if IE
has such a thing but my guess is that it does.

Alternatively OpenOffice is often distriibuted free on the CDs/DVDs that
come with computer magazines.
