The OP did not say what OS she is using. If she is using Linux, then I am afraid that this is not correct. In Linux, files on CD can be either read only, i.e. when you open them you will be unable to edit them (there are ways round this, but that is the basic situation) or read/write, you can open and edit them. It is not, of course, possible to save the edited file to the CD, as you have explained in the snipped bit of your email, but you can save it to e.g. your HD. If the OP _is_ using Linux, then if she posts again and says what software she is using when she burns the CDs, I can tell her how to make the files read/write instead of read only.
