For some reason in the body of the report I am typing I get a bold

If you type three or more identical characters from this list: minus,
underscore, equals, asterisk, swung dash, hash mark - at the
beginning of a line and then press Enter, Writer will attach a border
to the paragraph above. Is that what is happening?
If you wish to disable this facility, go to Tools | AutoCorrect... |
Options, and remove the tick from "Apply border".
To remove the effect once it is present, try these techniques:
o Put the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph after the line,
and backspace until it disappears. Then press Enter to separate your
paragraphs again.
o Right-click in the paragraph before the line and select
Paragraph... | Borders. Under "Line arrangement" and "Default" at
the left, click in the leftmost small box, to remove all borders. Press OK.
I trust this helps.
