Perhaps you are expecting the Right Page page style to apply automatically to right pages? That would be understandable, but it is not so. Right Page is a predefined page style available for your use, but all your pages will be following the Default page style until you apply any different page style anywhere.
To solve your original problem, you do not need to be concerned with left and right pages, in fact: you need to create or use *and apply* only two styles: one for your first page (with no header or with an empty header) and another for all the rest - with the header.
