What you can do, is download & install the free Microsoft Word Viewer and Compatibility Pack from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/CD102258581033.aspx. This will allow you to read those .DOCX documents and then cut & paste the contents into OpenOffice Writer. Installing the Word Viewer will change your file associations for Word documents, so you'll have to reset them, as described here:
Changing file associations Right click on file icon Select Open With > Choose Program... Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and choose the desired application. If that method is not available, follow the directions listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859 Another method would be to simply uninstall OpenOffice and then re-install after the Word Viewer has been installed. Once you have your documents converted, there's no harm in leaving the Word Viewer installed. It may come in handy, should you receive those documents from someone else or if you want to see how a Word document you create will appear in Word. Incidentally, you've just experienced Microsoft lock-in. They sucker you into saving your documents in a format that nothing else understands then then expect you to pay a ransom to get your data back. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
