[users] Attaching spell checker

I am using version 2.3 of OpenOffice.Org and cannot attach the spell 
checker to any of the programs.  I have followed the instruction given 
to use the English (US) version but when the spell checker is run there 
is no language in the spell checker box.  Would appreciate additional or 
correct details on how to do this.
