The best format to save in, is the default ODT, which is an ISO standard
ODF format. Also, make sure automatic file name extension is selected,
when saving a file. If you're sending a copy that the recipient is not
expected to edit, you can send them a PDF copy of the file. If it is to
be edited, you'll have to save in a format they can work with. If they
don't currently run OpenOffice, this would be a good time for you to
recommend it to them, or failing that, the Sun ODF plug-in for Microsoft
Office, so they can read & write ODF files.

Incidentally, if you're sending a file, you can use File > Send and
E-mail the desired document type.

Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org>

hi james:
i have told many a friend about office, also about a small donation
if they choose. as far as SAVE AS I will do a test document with a
color back ground & the word test in red. the extension box is checked as you
said, i send defult .odt there are 21 choices. i send to myself. when i open
the background is not there, but the
red font is, how do i send to get background color? i tried saving
in a differnt type. when i clicked on link it said open with. many
choices, i found one that opened, no color background but red font.
i want to thank you for your support, regards, gary
