I am using version 2.0 of OpenOffice.org. My problem is that I cannot find how to close down the footer on the opening page of a multipage document and begin the numbering at "1" on the second page. This is a simple requirement that I am sure is due to my ignorance. I don't want to swear on line, (!) but it can be done very easily on Microsoft Word. I'm sure I have done it on an older version of OpenOffice, but I cannot remember how.
You need to use different page styles for the first page and subsequent pages. It may be that the built-in page styles called First Page and Default will suffice. Note that the First Page page style has Default set as its "Next Style": this means that if you set the first page to have First Page page style, subsequent pages will get Default page style automatically.
Use Insert | Footer > to insert a footer in the Default page style but not the First Page one (or insert an empty footer there if you prefer). Use Insert | Fields > | Page Number to insert the page number into the Default page style. The second page will be numbered 2, and so on. Now put the cursor just *in front of* the page number field and go to right-click | Fields... (or Edit | Fields...). Enter "-1" (no quotes) in the Offset box.
I trust this helps. Brian Barker --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
