OpenOffice is a full office suite, similar to Microsoft Office. It can
read & write Microsoft Office files, except those saved in the new
Office 2007 formats. OpenOffice is fine for what you want to do. If
you're sending a document to someone who needs a word .DOC file, you'll
have to remember to save in that format.
