That's because Linux only has a very small segment of the market. If

gains a larger market share, then the idiots that write viruses will

to write viruses for Linux.
But they'll still be writing for a splintered market because "Linux" is
not a monolith. There are many different kernel versions out there,
different distributions with different methods of handling stuff
(including "standard" file locations, packaging, etc.). For that reason
alone, there'll be far fewer people interested in writing Linux viruses.
Far less bang-for-the-buck or return for effort expended.
Most Linux distros are compliant with the Linux Standard Base, which
specifies locations for the various files, etc.
