Patrick, I think perhaps you are referring to Normal View in Microsoft Word
(its other views were Web Layout View, Print Layout View and Outline View).
Normal View shows the text as a continuous run (with just a single dotted
line to indicate a page break) and does not show headers or footers. I
found this a very useful view in Word and used it almost all the time.
So far as I know, it is not an option in OOo -- I certainly wish it was!

Subject: [users] Question about "white space" in writer.
Hi all, I've just started using OO and I have what may be a newb-like
question. In Microsoft Word there is an option to hide/show the "white
space." If you hide it, all unused space (such as space left on a page
from
a page break high up or headers/footers) is hidden, and weeding through
multi-paged documents is much easier. I was wondering if there was a
comparable option in OO Writer. Thanks!
