You need to make sure that the language of the document is set correctly and
that you have the appropriate dictionary installed.

I assume you have not done anything too strange such as defining different
languages using character and paragraph styles.

Open the document you are experiencing problems with
Go to Tools>Options
Open (click on the plus) the "Languages settings" section and select
"Languages"
In the "Default Languages setting for documents, select the desired
language. Note that for the spelling checker to be active, the language must
have a blue tick symbol next to it. If not do not despair just yet...
Click OK to close the Options dialog.

Ok, now, if your language was supported you are done, otherwise you will
need to install a new dictionary. If this is the case try to use the auto
pilot (File > Wizards > Install new dictionaries) and follow the
instructions.
