I am using version 2.3.1 of Openoffice.org my question is:

Please help.
It sounds as if you may have docked the Stylist to an edge and then
accidentally reduced its size so it can't be seen. If so, try
hovering the cursor near the edge you docked to and see if you can
get the resizing cursor. (There may be neater ways to do this, but
this has worked for me in the past!)
If the user is using Windows, here is how to rescue such a window
that has become lost off the screen:
o Click the Styles and Formatting button in the Formatting
toolbar. Focus should now be on this window, even if it is not visible.
o Press Alt+Spacebar: this brings up the window's shortcut menu
(which may well also not be visible).
o Now press M to select the Move item in that menu. The cursor
should become a vertical cross with four arrowheads.
o You can now move the window using the keyboard's arrow keys
repeatedly. Once the outline is conveniently on the screen, press
Enter to confirm the required position and complete the move. To
abort the move instead, press Esc.
But note that my 2.3.1 under Windows XP seems good at recovering such
windows when I try to push them off the screen, in fact. So this
shouldn't be necessary.
I trust this helps.
