Does your Openoffice software allow us to do this? If not, do you know

Open office fits your stated requirement very nicely. It's very
inexpensive. (FREE) It can save files in Word.doc format, there is a
version that runs on Windows, and it is PC based. It also has a
presentation module and a spreadsheet module. These modules are also
compatible with their MS Office equivalents except for the new 2007 formats
with file extensions ending in x such as .docx. This exception is supposed
to be corrected in an upcoming release.
