I am of no practical help at all here, but your subject hit a nerve.
We've had no end of trouble with a Vista OS machines that have come into
our office recently.
We had problems running OO and were going to chase it through, but then
realised that the cabled network speed back to our Linux/ Samba file
server was slower than dial up. Wireless networking is unusable. I am
not kidding.
We finished upgrading both Vista machines to Windows XP Pro.
I can't begin to tell you how angry I was/ am about Vista.
