[users] cannot open my documents

I have version openoffice 2.3 and, as of this morning, cannot open my documents.
  Please advise.  (I was able to open them yesterday but cannot today.)
  Is it not free anymore?  If that's the case, please let me know what I need 
to do to get into my documents.
