While you've been using the 3-month trial version all the documents its created were created as the newest type of Office document. These files which have X on the end of their file names (this info may be hidden in Windows but that setting can be changed to confirm), eg., .docx, cannot be read by the current version of OpenOffice or by older versions of Microsoft Office. If you have many of these files and need to continue reading them post another question about how to go about doing that. There are many people here who can provide instructions how that can be accomplished. I haven't had to do that so really can't offer that guidance.
