If you cannot remove the icon from your desktop it sounds like a
desktop manager issue. Which desktop do you use?

If you don't know what I'm asking about, then I'll assume that you are
running Windows. What happens when you choose Delete from the context
menu? What happens when you drag the icon to the Recycle Bin?
