Just wanted to say a fond goodbye to all those kind souls out there in
the big wide OpenOffice world. I'm leaving, adious, au revoir, auf
weidersehn.

The patient people that try and help people with the suite are angels
and saints as far as I am concerned. I've tried, offered the odd
contribution, and silently sent my thoughts of goodwill to those of you
with infinite patience.

I can forgive people not being computer literate, I can forgive people
needing help with the blindingly obvious, I can even forgive those
people that are just not very bright.

The thing that has REALLY got my goat is the number of people that send
semi-abusive emails to this list of "joe public" who give up their time
to help out where they can. The iq-challenged individual earlier today
blaming the users community because he was daft enough to buy a copy of
OpenOffice for a ridiculous price, just to find there's something wrong
with the CD.

People that seem to enjoy slating this community just because it isn't
Microsoft. People that treat this list like a Support Service they are
paying a fortune for. I belong to loads of forums and mailing lists,
and this one is the only one I've ever had annoy me in such a way.

To the people out there - before you post a comment or request for help,
try and remember that this is NOT going to some company in a tech park
somewhere with paid support people who have to take such attitude and
abuse. This is REAL people, giving up SPARE time to help out on a GREAT
product that is offered free of charge to whoever wants it.

Is OpenOffice perfect? No. Is it getting better all the time? Yes.

If you are that unimpressed - then Microsoft awaits, stay away from open
source and good riddance to you.

Phil
