I downloaded the open office 2.4 dmg file yesterday and tried to
install on my mac pc. I can't use it as it always crushes due to
unexpected error. I don't know what to do. I try many times to
delete it from my application and reinstall but the same problem
happen. I am using Leopard OSX 10.5.2.
Maybe my uninstallation is not clean and that still remains in the
registry. Any idea how to completely remove it before I can install
it back? Do I have to register the software cause the last step in
the installation ask for registration?
To be clear, are you still using the Aqua version? Tell us the
exact name of the download file. If it is Aqua, download and try out
the "normal" or X11 version. In that case, you would be well advised
to update your OS - 10.5.3 is out now, and gives a better version of
X11. 2.4 is still in testing mode - try 2.3, it should have fewer bugs.
OSX doesn't have a registry. You will have some settings files
saved in your user account under Library/Application Support. You
might delete both "OpenOffice.org" and "OpenOffice.org2" folders.
There's another troubleshooting technique that you might try: go to
another account, or better yet create a new account. If the problem
repeats itself in the new account, then it's not in your settings but
the application itself [or its interactions with the OS]. In that
case, you would have to try another version. And yes, OO will
continue to work whether or not you have registered as a user.
