I am having problems with PowerPoint and remembered the FREE Open
Office software. Then I find it is free like all the other free
stuff, only at a price once you download. What do I do if I am not
satisfied with Open Office?

Not so, Hendrik

If you go to www.openoffice.org you can download from there for free
including all updates. The only cost is an internet connection, and you can even buy a CD at nominal cost - see the download page. You can even download the source and modify it if you are so inclined. Current version is 2.3.1 with 2.4 due any day now. If you are not satisfied you can just uninstall it.
