Has it occurred to you that the problem lies with Windows?

Also, what is XP2000? There is Windows XP and there is Windows 2000. As far as I know they are different.

Are you running OpenOffice's Quickstarter? If so, try exiting it *before* uninstalling OpenOffice.

Exactly what error messages do you get when you try to uninstall OpenOffice? If no error messages, exactly what happens?

You say you no longer need OpenOffice. Is that because you have paid for Microsoft Office? Nowadays, many "commercial" computers (what is an uncommercial computer?) come with a *trial* version of Microsoft Office 2007. When that trial expires (30 days?) you will be obliged to pay the full price for the product (or for an old version like MS Office 2003) because *nothing else* will be able to open the documents you created.

There is a well know bug in Windows whereby it sometimes won't let you uninstall stuff. The fix is at the Microsoft web site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
