Any chance you are saving the document in .doc instead of .odt (the native OOo format)? In general, if you apply the numbering using the toolbar button instead of a style OOo "declares" the numbering to be in the default style even if in reality it applies the font of the paragraph. It may be that this information is written in the exported document. Again this may be due to the fact that you are saving the document as .doc instead of .odt. Unless you expect the recipient to edit the document, I recommend you always save documents in the OOo native format and convert them to pdf when sending them to someone who does not use OOo.
