[users] Spell Check in Calc

I am having a problem with spell check in Calc. My version is open office
2.3. I know some people who are having the same problem.
It is not registering any errors that I have in spelling, even the most
flagrant ones.
I have enabled auto-spell check. Anyone have advice?
