I use "mutt" but that may by looks like Hard-Core to you.

I think "mutt" only runs on *nix and, as the question concerns replacing Microsoft Outlook I'd guess the requirement is for something that runs on Windows ;-) In that case, Thunderbird, possibly with the Lightning extension for calendars is highly recommended by many people. It's free at www.mozilla.org - the same people that bring you Firefox :-) Thunderbird lets you import from Outlook or from Outlook Express. For what it's worth this message is being sent with Thunderbird on a Win XP Pro system.
