I installed DEBs from a mirror and installed after a brief trip through
dependency purgatory. I had the debian version of OOo 2.3 installed and
even after I removed all Openoffice packages there was a problem with
base. It conflicted with a package called hsqldbn which I finally
tracked down and purged. 

Now I just have to work out how to stop synaptic from trying to install
the debian version when 2.4 makes it into "testing."
